Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming?
So this past weekend Disney held there D23 Expo and at their video game coverage panel we saw a new gameplay trailer for the mythical Kingdom Hearts 3. This got me both excited and thinking about how to introduce new people to the series because while this is the 3rd main game it the 10th game released counting the 2.8 prolog game. This is the major problem with the series is the bearer of entry is well high and confusing. So i'm makeing my list of what game you need to play and why. I will also explain why the others don't need to be played. So let's get on board the Gummi ship and get started.
The Master List.
There are out of the 9 games currently out in world only 4 you need to play and 1 you should play but not necessary. I will also list them in the order you should play them so here we go.
Kingdom Hearts
The original game was always a need to play it the best introduction to world and if you never played you can pick up 1.5+2.5 collection on PS4. The camera is this game biggest weakness it didn't age well but the story is one of the best.
Kingdom Hearts 2
The 1st numbered sequel and maybe one of the best games in the franchise all around. the gameplay is solid and story is amazing creating so much character growth and is still in the spirit in the original game.
Birth by Sleep
This game is a prequel and introduces 3 new characters with 3 different yet interlocking stories that set in motion the events of the 1st 2 games.
Dream Drop Distance.
This game serves as a direct prolog to 3 to a point. it introduces new gameplay and expands the plot built on the games above.
The Maybe
Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage
This game is included on the 2.8 Final Prolog and directly connects Birth by Sleep to Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 3 it is a great demo for the game to come but story wise I hope 3 will do an adequate job explaining this.
The Skip list
These games are in my opinion the worst of the whole series and do not add any information to the series as a whole.
Chain of Memories
A card battle game that sends you back through the worlds of the original game. Ment to bridge the gap between 1 and 2. It is rendered pointless by the fact that series main character Sora has no memory of the adventure and that in the opening cut scenes of 2 most of why is explained. The few villains in the game are given no development and what information you do need to know about them can be learned in Jimmy's journal in KH2.
358/2 Days
...What little story there is in the game is forced and dragged on by gameplay that is utterly forgettable. It purpose was to give background to KH2 character Roxas and his relationship with Organization XIII members. If you want to know the story of the game i will now detail it so you don't have to play it warning spoilers.
Coded
This is the game I know the least about it follows Mickey as he goes over Jimmy's Journal from the two number games. It has a weird Tron concept with a data-Sora and a secret message. The whole point of the game is to introduce the concept of Book of Prophecies.
Kingdom Hearts χ/Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ/Kingdom Hearts Union χ
original a browser game moved to the mobile market. It tells the story of the original keyblade wielders and leads into the legendary Keyblade War. While I think this story is great it's hidden behind garbage questlines that take up better 90 % of the game I'd recommend watching the movie Black Cover in 2.8 collection.

Kingdom Hearts Days follows Roxas in his time in Organization XIII The game takes place parallel to Chain of memories. During the story Roxas become best friends with Axel, another member of the Organization. Along the way new member Xion is added to the Organization who like Roxas can use a keyblade. Note at this point Roxas can only use one keyblade at this time. She becomes friends with both Roxas and Axel. During her time in the organization Roxas fall into long term state of unconsciousness related to her ability to use a keyblade. It later learned that Xion is not a Nobody, a body without a heart, but a construct based on a memory of Sora. After learning this and that it is preventing Sora's recovery she goes rogue and is forced into conflict with Roxas. She ask Roxas to end her and let her return to Sora. He does so and gets his 2nd Keyblade and soon forgets Xion but only for a little while which leads to his leaving the Organization and events of the Deep Dive secret trailer from KH1.
